Airsoft Guns Terms and Glossary

Term Meaning
  6mm  Diameter of BBs used in Airsoft models 
  AEG  Acronym for Automatic Electric Gun 
  NBB  Non BlowBack. A type of gas gun where the slide does not cycle. 
  AR  Automatic Rifle 
  Automatic  Continuous firing without manual re-cocking 
  Barrel  Guides the ammunition towards the target. 
  BB  Acronym for Ball Bearing 
  BLK  Acronym for Blowback 
  Bolt Action  Type of single shot Airsoft, normally on 'sniper' type rifles. 
  Breach  Section inside a gun which contains the ammunition prior to firing. 
  Breach Block  Houses the breach 
  Bushings  The bearings which the gears run in. 
  Butt  The part of the gun which you hold against your shoulder 
  Calibre  Size / diameter of the inside of the barrel 
  Carbine  A shortened version of a long barreled rifle 
  Double Action  Pistols which provide a hard first-shot trigger pull 
  EBB Electronic Blowback
  EG560  1st Generation Tokyo Marui Motor 
  EG650  Tuned motor for TM FAMAS range. Also in the AA/Elite L85A1 
  EG700  2nd Generation Tokyo Marui Motor 
  EG1000  3rd Generation Tokyo Marui Motor
  Ejection Port Where used ammunition cases would be ejected if live-firing 
  Fire Selector Switch Selects safety, semi, burst or fully automatic firing, depending on the model 
  Frame  Main body of a firearm or replica 
  GBB  Acronym for Gas Bowback 
  Gears  Connect the motor to the piston. 
  Gearbox  Contain the gears & piston. 
  GPMG  General Purpose Machine Gun 
  HBAR  Heavy Barrelled Automatic Rifle 
  HFC134a  A less powerful (than HFC22) gas for GBBs 
  HFC22  A powerful type of gas for GBBs ("Green Gas") 
  Hi-Cap  High-Capacity Magazine holding 190+ BBs 
  HMG  Heavy Machine Gun 
  HOP-Up  Rubber system that causes the BBs to "hop up", providing spin to increase range 
  Springer  A gun powered by a manually cocked spring. Single action. 
  IW  Individual Weapon, standard issue weapons for soldiers. 
  LMG  Light Machine Gun 
  LSW  Light Support Weapon, also known as a squad or section support gun. 
  Magazine  Contains ammunition which feeds into the Airsoft model 
  Mech-Box  Gearbox & piston/switch housing of AEGs 
  Metal Body Kit  Upgrade to add weight and strength to your AEG. 
  MMG  Medium Machine Gun 
  Motor Used to power mini and full size Airsoft AEGs. 
  Muzzle  The target (not the breach block) end of the barrel 
  RoF  Rate of Fire, normally in RPM 
  RPM  Rounds per minute 
  Safety Switch  Allows model to be fired. Always store Airsoft guns with the safety catch on. 
  Silicon Spray  A silicon-based lubricant for airsoft guns 
  Semi Automatic  Reloads breach, but requires another trigger pull for next shot. 
  SF  Sustained fire 
  Single Action  More sensitive trigger firing mechanism - model must already be cocked 
  Slide  Section of a gun which moves either for cocking or in cyclic action 
  SLR  Self Loading Rifle 
  Skirmishing  Playing 'wargames' with Airsoft or Paintball models. 
  SOCOM  Special Operations Command 
  SMG  Sub Machine Gun. Small automatic gun which fires a pistol calibre round. 
  Standard  A non-upgraded Airsoft model 
  Stock  Section between breach block and butt of a model. 
  SPAS  Special Purpose Automatic Shotgun 
  Spring  Provides power behind most Airsoft guns. Normally inside the pistol. 
  SV  Special, Super or Sniper Version 
  Tracer  Special BBs which glow green when exposed to light. 
  Tracer Unit  This illuminates Tracer BBs as they leave the barrel. 
  Trigger  You pull this to fire the Airsoft model (usually) 
  Trigger Guard  Protective guard around trigger. 
  USP  Universal Self-loading Pistol
